Rob presents a one-man presentation that combines humor, education, heart & truth.
Creating a safe space to connect through shared emotions and experiences.
Opening the doors to an open conversation around mental health in New Zealand.
Told from a unique Maori perspective of finding hope in the darkest of spaces.
In 2009, Rob Mokaraka’s battle with undiagnosed depression led to a life-altering moment when he provoked police and was shot. This turning point marked the beginning of his journey toward healing, resilience, and manaakitanga (care and support). Determined to break the stigma surrounding mental health, Rob now dedicates his life to fostering mātauranga (knowledge) and raising awareness about well-being.
Rob’s mission is clear: to spread aroha (love) and hope while providing practical tools to support suicide prevention. By empowering whānau (families) and hapori (communities), he aims to ensure no one faces mental health struggles alone.
Through his one-man theatrical performance, Shot Bro: Confessions of a Depressed Bullet, Rob shares his deeply personal story with raw honesty and humor. This powerful show blends education, entertainment, and emotional safety to ignite meaningful conversations about mental health.
As Shot Bro tours Aotearoa (New Zealand), including hard-to-reach communities, Rob continues to shine marama (light) into the darkness. With his message of resilience, aroha, and practical tools for well-being, he inspires hope and sparks positive change across the country.

The show is absolutely amazing! it is a roller coaster ride of emotion - laughing so hard, then crying - But well worth watching if you can. The love and kindess that Rob (and Danny) show everyone is so beautiful and overwhelming - it washes over you like a warm hug.

Confessions of a Depressed Bullet is amazing! Full of many different things. A lot of emotion, humor, love and realness to life itself. It is so incredible how one man can become so many different characters in one show. I was mesmerized from start to finish. I cried. I laughed and I was at times speechless.
Michelle, Auckland.
Such a privilege to enter the world of someone else's pain, emotion and journey. An intense, funny, heartbreaking show that helps us all to talk about our demons. Thank you for being brave and sharing the voice for those that can not.
Lizzie, Wellington.

When Rob Mokaraka experienced his pōuritanga (depression), he felt lost and unable to see a way forward. Reflecting on his journey, he shares, “I didn’t realize what was happening to me. I had all these overwhelming thoughts and feelings, and I didn’t understand them. I was carrying whakamā (shame), guilt, and a sense of failure, building up an internal case against myself—and after 20 years, I exploded.”
Depression requires our attention and care. Turning our backs on it can lead to dangerous outcomes. That’s why it’s crucial to check in regularly with friends, whānau (family), or trusted professionals. Finding taonga āwhina (tools of support) that resonate with you can make a significant difference in your journey toward healing.
If you feel lost in the fog, remember you are not alone—help is available. Rob’s story, shared through his impactful one-man show, Shot Bro, emphasizes the importance of reaching out and seeking support. By blending personal experience, humor, and education, Shot Bro inspires vital conversations about mental health while offering practical tools for resilience.
For those in need of immediate assistance, there are trusted mental health organisations and helplines across Aotearoa, ready to provide 24/7 crisis prevention services. Whether for yourself or someone you care about, these resources can guide you toward hope and healing.
